Family's Story
Three generations, one land.
La Sassicaia Farm Stay began as a family farm in the heart of the Maremma, in Castiglione della Pescaia. Before becoming a farm stay, it was a life choice: to work the land, raise a family, and build something with deep roots and an open eye to the future.
1954 | THE ORIGINS
A LAND TO BUILD
In the 1950s, our grandfather arrived from Liguria to a Maremma that was still taking shape. He was not looking for a business, but for a life. The countryside became home. Everything started from scratch: olive trees, a kitchen garden, daily hard work and a deep respect for the rhythms of nature.

1960 | THE OLIVE
TREES ROOTS THAT REMAIN
The olive trees were planted on the Poggio, they are still there today. The farm began to take shape: hand-picked harvests, olive oil production, seasonal cultivation.
THE FAMILY GROWS
THE LAND IS PASSED ON
The children grew up between the kitchen garden and the kitchen. Recipes were never written down, they were learnt by watching. The countryside stayed the same whilst the world changed around it. Continuity became the true inheritance.

1968 | THE RESTAURANT IS BORN
FROM THE LAND TO THE TABLE
The restaurant (Trattoria) opened its doors. The farm’s produce made its way into the kitchen. Our grandmother taught, our mother carried it on. The table became a place for gathering and storytelling.
2000 | SEA AND COUNTRYSIDE
A NATURAL BALANCE
The setting between countryside and sea became part of the experience. Open beaches, pine forests, unspoilt nature. La Sassicaia found its balance: more sea than land, but always nature.

2010 | THE FIRST ROOMS
THE HOME TRANSFORMS
Some of the family’s own spaces were converted into guest rooms. These were not rooms built to impress, but lived-in spaces that began to welcome visitors. To sleep here is to inhabit a story.
2020 | THE RENEWAL
A CONTEMPORARY VISION
The new generation brought a focus on understated design, sustainability and more mindful communication. To innovate does not mean to erase, it means to preserve and allow things to evolve.

Today | A LIVING PLACE
THREE GENERATIONS, ONE DIRECTION
La Sassicaia today is the result of three generations inhabiting the same place in different ways, but with the same respect. It was not built to impress, it is a story that continues.
